Southfields is represented at local, regional, national and international levels of government.

Southfields lies in the London Borough of Wandsworth, which is divided into 20 electoral wards. The neighbourhood generally thought of as Southfields overlaps parts of three of these wards, each of which is represented by three councillors on Wandsworth Council:

Elections to Wandsworth Council take place every four years. The last elections were held in May 2006; the next elections will be held in May 2010.

The boroughs of Merton and Wandsworth are represented on the London Assembly by Elizabeth Howlett. Elections to the London Assembly take place every four years. The last elections were held in June 2004; the next elections will be held in June 2008.

Southfields lies in the parliamentary constituency of Putney. The Member of Parliament (MP) for Putney is Justine Greening. The next general election must be held within five years of this date, i.e. by May 2010

London is represented by nine Members of the European Parliament (MEPs). Elections to the European Parliament take place every five years. The last elections were held in June 2004; the next elections will be held in June 2009.
